The patient support worker who answers has been trained to ask you a few questions to help direct you to the most appropriate professional. The information you give is confidential, so please be as open as you can, as it will help her get you the professional you need as quickly as possible.
Getting you to the right professional in the quickest time..
Very often, this will not be with a GP, so please don't be surprised if you are offered an appointment with a nurse practitioner, practice nurse, midwife, psychologist or physiotherapist. Your problem will usually be dealt with just as well, and far more quickly, that way.
'Phone first' saves your time and our time.
If you are offered an appointment with a GP, it will most likely be a telephone appointment in the first instance. If you are not used to that, it can feel a little odd. You can book a face to face appointment if you wish, but the wait for these is usually quite a lot longer, and you'd be very surprised how much your GP can do by phone. What's more, if the GP thinks you need to be seen, she will often bring you in that same day.
